General cleaning instructions

Step 1: Clean crowns prior to insertion. Leave them in an ultrasonic bath for 1 minute. Crowns must be completely submerged and covered.

Step 2: Disinfect with alcohol or other suitable agent. Use disinfectant according to manufacturer's instructions. Rinse off and dry as required.

Optional: Crowns may be autoclaved, if so desired, at a temperature of 121°C (250°F) or 134°C (273.2°F).

PLEASE NOTE: Other methods are not permissible.

Instructions for application

1. Select the right size.

Use our try-in kit to quickly find the correct size. Before preparation, measure the mesio-distal distance of the tooth to be prepared, e.g. with a gauge. Once you have determined the correct millimeter distance, measure the selected crown to confirm the size match.

2. Prepare the tooth.

Prepare the tooth as usual for receiving a prefabricated crown. Please note that due to the very delicate design and the low wall thickness of the KiDDY CAPS crown, only a very small amount of hard tooth substance needs to be removed. This applies in particular to the approximal surfaces as well as the lingual and vestibular surfaces.

3. Check the size and temporary insertion.

Place the selected crown on the prepared tooth and assess the mesio-distal fit and the occlusal situation to the neighboring teeth. The crown should fit well into the row of teeth with light finger pressure. Biting the patient with a temporarily inserted (non-cemented) crown is not recommended.

In contrast to metal crowns, KiDDY CAPS should NOT have a “snap effect.”

4. Customization.

If you notice during the provisional placement that the gingiva is pale (anemic) in one or more places, you should adjust the crown individually. To do this, grind the edge of the crown at the interfering points with a diamond drill or a cross-cut milling cutter until an optimal fit is achieved.

Due to the excellent material properties of the KiDDY CAPS zirconium oxide ceramic crowns, there are almost no sharp burrs. You should, however, check the edge of the crown before inserting it and smooth it with a polisher if necessary. Finally, the factory-applied colored sticker must be removed from the crown.

Note: The occlusal surfaces of the KiDDY CAPS zirconium oxide ceramic crowns can be ground in by up to 0.1 mm if necessary.

5. Clean the tooth.

After a successful try-in, rinse the prepared tooth and ensure that it is as dry as possible, e.g. with cotton rolls. The tooth should be free of saliva and blood residues and absolutely dry for optimal adhesion of the crown.

6. Fastening materials.

KiDDY CAPS zirconium oxide ceramic crowns can be used conventionally e.g. with phosphate cement, glass ionomer cement, etc. The additional use of an adhesive system is also possible. The practitioner is responsible for choosing the fastening material. For processing information, please refer to the manufacturer's information for the respective product.

7. Final cementation.

After a successful try-in and selection of the luting material, fill the crown, taking care to avoid air pockets. Press the crown into the position determined during the try-in and keep the pressure constant with your finger throughout the entire curing period of the cement.

Note: Do not try to reach the final position of the crown with intense finger pressure, otherwise there is a risk that the crown will be pushed too deep into the sulcus and below the natural occlusal plane.

Alternatively, you can use a tongue depressor or plastic instrument for insertion. Care must be taken here that these aids are NEVER placed between the crown and the antagonist, as otherwise the crown would also be pressed too deep into the sulcus.

8. Excess removal.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the fastening material you have chosen with regard to the setting or curing time. Remove excess material with a scaler, probe, or similar instrument. It is best to clean the approximal areas with knotted dental floss. The sulcus should be free of cement residue at the end. The finished crown should correspond to the natural tooth in size, relationship to the neighboring teeth and occlusion.

9. Check the occlusion.

Finally, check the occlusion of the inserted crown and remove any previous contacts with a diamond bur. Finally, the ground areas must be smoothed with a suitable ceramic polisher.

Optional: X-ray control.

After carefully assessing the risk, an x-ray should confirm that the crown is correctly seated on the preparation and that it is free from marginal gaps. At the same time, any remaining cement residue can be identified.

Special note: Extraction of neighboring teeth

In practice, it is not uncommon for pre-made crowns to be fitted in conjunction with tooth extractions, especially in treatments involving intubation and anaesthesia. Please avoid using surgical levering instruments with zirconium oxide ceramic crowns, at least in the same quadrant. All ceramics have a higher susceptibility to lateral loads which can result from the use of such tools. Traditional extraction forcepts are preferred.

Other important notes about usage and upkeep

Zirconium oxide crowns are translucent and their coloring is influenced by the color of the adhesive used.

The crowns are intended for single-use only by dentists. Used crowns must be discarded.

If a crown breaks during processing or if too much material has been removed, it must be discarded.

The average life of crown restorations depends on oral hygiene and regular check-ups.

Contraindications: No specific contraindications are known. Generally speaking, a restorative material should not be used if there are any known allergies or hypersensitivities to the material or to the adhesive material required for the restoration.
